The Account Synchronization function recently supported by Google Authenticator(starting from 6.0 on Android and 4.0 on iOS) realizes the backup of the authenticator by synchronizing users' Google verification code to the login Google account. However, it has been confirmed that this feature has not been end-to-end encrypted, which may pose a potential account security risk to users who turned it on.
Based on this, ViaBTC strongly recommends users who use Google Authenticator check and turn off the Account Synchronization. Please refer to the following guidelines (for iOS/Android users):
Situation 1: I'm using Google Authenticator without an account
In this case, the Account Synchronization is turned off by default and no further action is required.
Situation 2: I'm using Google Authenticator with an account
1. In this case, please click your profile icon in the upper right corner of the Google Authenticator page.
2. Select [Use Authenticator without an account].
3. Click [Continue].
4. The Account Synchronization has been successfully turned off.
Note: If your Google account is unfortunately lost or stolen when the Account Synchronization is turned on, your Google verification code can be obtained together, which may further increase the risk of your ViaBTC account. Therefore, we sincerely advise you to follow the above guides carefully.
